Tour of Historic Wyck and Stenton
Tuesday, June 2 Tour of Historic Wyck and Stenton Nine generations of the same Quaker family, the Wistars and the Haines, lived on this "farm" in Germantown, known as Wyck. We will tour this wonderful colonial house, with its noteworthy 1824 alterations by William Strickland, and historic gardens with over 30 varieties of roses. Stenton was the home of three generations of the Logan family, prominent Quakers actively involved in politics in the Colony and later, the United States. Stenton is one of the earliest and finest examples of Georgian architecture in Philadelphia. The collections reflect a wide range of styles from the William and Mary Period of the late 17th century to later Chippendale furniture. There is also a superb group of early American textiles and clothing. Our group will depart at 9:30 am from the Physick House, at 321 South Fourth Street. A picnic lunch will be provided in the garden of one of homes. There will be a fee to cover lunch and house admission costs. Please RSVP to Penn's Village at info@pennsvillage.org or 215.925.7333 by May 26th.

Please join us at a happy hour block party to view Japanese film, "The World City Walk Philadelphia" including the Birdhouses on the corner of 23rd & Rittenhouse Sq. St. Co-sponsored by "Penn's Village - Neighbors Being Neighbors." Beer, wine and light refreshments included.

On Sunday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 7pm join your neighbors east and west of Broad St on the 2200 block of Rittenhouse Sq. St. to view a documentary filmed in Philly and aired in Tokyo that focuses on our unique Philadelphia streets. Intrigued by the birdhouses at 2227 Rittenhouse Sq. St., a Japanese film crew asked to include them in their documentary of unique streets in Philadelphia. An assortment of primitive and contemporary birdhouses is a new sanctuary for our local sparrow population. The birdhouses bring smiles to the faces of all passersby. Tourists snap photos and playgroups come by on 'field' trips to look at the birdhouses, identify the flowers beneath and watch the adults feeding their young.

Come see old friends and meet new ones and learn how Penn's Village, is supporting folks who want to remain comfortably in their own homes and in the neighborhood they love. By introducing neighbors to neighbors, we can help each other make this happen.

This event focuses on just one example of a unique Center City neighborhood or capability . . . there are many more that we hope to shine the spotlight on in the coming months. Join us on Sept 18, from 5 to 7pm (well before the Eagles game) at 2227 Rittenhouse Street between Locust and Spruce Sts. on 23rd St.
