View & Discuss “I, Daniel Blake”

With Victoria Kirkham and Penn’s Village

Saturday October 29th

This film is the winner of the Palm d'Or at this year's Cannes Festival: A 59 year old carpenter recovering from a heart attack, befriends a single mum and her two kids as they navigate their way through an impersonal and complex benefits system.

Victoria Kirkham, our moderator, is Professor Emerita of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania.  A Penn’s Village member, Victoria has had a life-long interest in cinema and a distinctive reputation for leading thought provoking and lively discussions.

The film will be shown twice, on Sunday October 23, at 4:45 pm and Saturday October 29, at 5:05 pm, both at the Ritz East, B.  Tickets for this film are $13.00 for nonmembers of the Film Society.  We recommend purchasing tickets as soon as possible since the film is likely to be very popular.  They can be bought at the Prince Theater (1412 Walnut) or online at Filmadelphia.org/festival.

We will meet across the street at City Tavern, 138 South 2nd Street, following the Saturday showing, at approximately 7:00 pm. The Tavern has agreed to save a quiet spot for us and we can each order whatever we please from the menu.   Handicapped access is available on the Wine Cellar level from the Walnut Street entrance.  Please let us know if you would like to use this entrance.

Please register by October 25th by emailing info@pennsvillage.org or calling 215 925 7333.
