From Arcadia to Montana - Inside the Cello
An Afternoon with Poet and Author George Economou
Friday, September 28 at 2PM
Meet Penn’s Village member George Economou, the author of fifteen books of poetry and translations. George will share his poetic journey from Great Falls Montana to Philadelphia and read a selection of poems from across his career as he assembled a Greek identity, drawing on myth, folktale, history, song, and papyrus fragments. The motto of his latest book is a one sentence poem entitled “All-American” that reads “The Unexamined Ethnic Life/ Is Not Worth Living.” The atmosphere of our afternoon together will be casual with time for discussion & questions.
The Athenaeum is once more the perfect setting for us to get to know an interesting and talented neighbor. There will also be a book sale and signing. This program is free for Penn’s Village members and volunteers. Other guests are welcome to attend three programs before joining and/or volunteering. A $5 donation to Penn’s Village from guests will be most appreciated.
The Athenaeum is located at 219 South 6th Street. The handicapped entrance is accessed through the garden at the rear of the building. Enter the garden on St. James Street. There is an intercom to contact the receptionist at the top of the ramp.
