What is Race

As the U.S. struggles to deal with historical and deep racial divisions, join us for an illustrated presentation that will look at what race actually is, and mostly at what it isn’t.

Anthropologist and professor Mark Curchack will explore the history of race, the physical diversity of the human species, some of the evolutionary biology of that diversity, and the consequences of what you most likely learned in school.

There will be an associated exercise that will be sent to those who register ahead of time, so be on the lookout!

Mark Curchack graduated from Yale University and earned a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. Now retired, he previously taught at Western Michigan University and at Beaver College/Arcadia University. His primary research has been the study of modern urban and suburban society in the U.S., and he has lectured on race and racism since 1991.
