Penn's Village Reads: Idyls of the Old South Ward by John E. McDonough

Old South Ward
Our reader, Harrison Wetherill from Old City, comes from Quaker ancestors who settled in Chester, PA in 1810. He will read from “Idyls of the Old South Ward,” which recollects tales of Old Chester as seen by the writer as a boy in the 1880s. The story provides a glimpse of life in a Delaware River town at that time and describes a very unusual event. “Idyl” is an old word meaning a short description in verse or prose of a picturesque scene or incident.
