Need a Ride-Along Buddy? We've Got You!

We have been reminding you what makes Penn's Village special—it's the community of care YOU have all built. Our volunteers have signed up not just to help, but because they want to be part of a community that looks out for one another. Below are just a few of the ways we can connect you with a neighbor who has offered to lend a hand. If you are eligible for services, don’t hesitate to call or email us with a request—be as descriptive as possible so we can find the best match for you. And if you’re a volunteer, might you consider expanding the ways you’re willing to help? There are so many ways to make a difference!

Going to an important appointment—whether it’s a doctor’s visit, a legal meeting, or something else—can feel like a big task, but you don’t have to do it alone. We have volunteers who are happy to accompany you, provide support, and make the experience feel a little less overwhelming. Whether you’d like someone to simply sit with you in the waiting room or to help take notes during the appointment, we’ll connect you with a neighbor who understands how important a little company can be.

Service Reminders:

● Villagers can receive up to three services per week (more under special circumstances).

● Neighbors can try out services twice a year—often for tech help or an appointment escort.

● While we fill most requests, some may take time to match with a volunteer, and occasionally, we may be unable to fulfill a request. We work hard to fill about 95% of requests.

● Volunteers assist in ways a friendly neighbor might. If a request is beyond our scope, we may suggest a professional from our provider/resource list.

This is your reminder that you belong to a community that values every member and believes each of us can support each other at all stages. Call the office at 215-925-7333 or email info@pennsvillage.org and tell us, in as much detail as possible, how we can find the right connection for you today.

In Our Community

Below is information about upcoming events taking place in the community that might be of interest to Penn's Village members.

Try Awareness Through Movement at Hopkinson House! (Hosted by Bob Chapra)

This is an invitation to join the newly formed Feldenkrais (Awareness Through Movement) class held at Hopkinson House, 604 South Washington Square, in the Solarium, every Friday from 10a-11a, taught by Bob Chapra. RSVP in advance to Bob Chapra via text at 267-250-8674 or email  at feldybob@gmail.com so your name can be included in a list at the front desk.

What is the Feldenkrais Method? The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the life they want. You can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. Since how you move is how you move through life, these improvements will often enhance your thinking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving capabilities.

If you'd like to attend, Bob asks that you do the following:

1. Bring Your Own Mat or Blanket: Please bring a comfortable mat or a thick blanket for floor exercises, ensuring it's suitable for lying on your back and side. If you do not have one available, don’t worry! Bob has a few extra mats. You can text him at 267-250-8674, and he may be able to arrange a mat for you to use during your first class.

2. Head Support: It is advisable to bring a bath towel for head support when lying on your back or side, as it can greatly enhance your comfort.

3. Dress Comfortably: Please wear loose-fitting clothing to allow for ease of movement. Just a quick note—dresses are not recommended.

4. Footwear: We will be practicing without shoes, so if you prefer not to be barefoot, please wear socks.

Should you have any questions or specific concerns about the class, do not hesitate to reach out to Bob. You can text him at 267-250-8674 or email him at feldybob@gmail.com.

These classes are provided at no charge to Hop House residents and their guests. However, contributions are appreciated, with a suggested range of up to $20 per session.  If you choose to contribute, you may do so via:
