Groceries, Gadgets, and Good Tunes--Oh My!

We have been reminding you what makes Penn's Village special—it's the community of care YOU have all built. Our volunteers have signed up not just to help, but because they want to be part of a community that looks out for one another. Below are just a few of the ways we can connect you with a neighbor who has offered to lend a hand. If you are eligible for services, don’t hesitate to call or email us with a request—be as descriptive as possible so we can find the best match for you. And if you’re a volunteer, might you consider expanding the ways you’re willing to help? There are so many ways to make a difference!

There are so many small tasks that become easier with a little help. Maybe you need someone to pick up a few things from the store or help you navigate a new phone app. Maybe you’ve been longing to play music with someone but didn’t know where to find a willing duet partner. We have volunteers who are happy to do all of these things—not just to help, but because they enjoy it! If you have a request, let us know. We might just find the perfect neighbor to share in whatever you need.

Service Reminders:

● Villagers can receive up to three services per week (more under special circumstances).

● Neighbors can try out services twice a year—often for tech help or an appointment escort.

● While we fill most requests, some may take time to match with a volunteer, and occasionally, we may be unable to fulfill a request. We work hard to fill about 95% of requests.

● Volunteers assist in ways a friendly neighbor might. If a request is beyond our scope, we may suggest a professional from our provider/resource list.

This is your reminder that you belong to a community that values every member and believes each of us can support each other at all stages. Call the office at 215-925-7333 or email info@pennsvillage.org and tell us, in as much detail as possible, how we can find the right connection for you today.

Check out this new report about community and intergenerational friendships!

One of the key benefits of Penn's Village is the role it plays in creating community and friendships between its members, through programming, volunteering opportunities, interest groups, and the many other ways that our Village brings people together. In this same vein, this report from Cogenerate offers an interesting and wide-ranging look at how intergenerational friendships "can reduce isolation and loneliness while creating understanding, empathy, mutual learning, connection and friendship" by creating companionship and connection. In addition to statistics and information, the report also offers a list of different organizations across the country seeking to build intergenerational friendships, including some here in Pennsylvania.
You can read the full report here: https://cogenerate.org/loneliness/

In Our Community

Below is information about upcoming events taking place in the community that might be of interest to Penn's Village members.

Free Eye Screening at Wills Eye on Diabetes Day

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, visit Wills Eye on Diabetes Day for a free eye screening to detect diabetic eye disease!

Will's Eye aims to eliminate diabetic blindness in the Greater Philadelphia region as well as raise awareness of the importance of an annual diabetic eye exam. They hope to provide free screenings to those in need and to help shorten the disparity of healthcare within our community.

Will's Eye will be providing a professional retina screening, help coordinating follow-up care, diabetic health information, and more!

LOCATION: Wills Eye Hospital, 840 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107

ICYMI: Hosted by our friends at Fountain View at Logan Square
