In former prosecutor and Assistant US Attorney Howard Wiener's experience, when the subject of plea bargaining arises in conversation, people usually react strongly, more often than not in the negative. However, he would argue that plea bargaining has a deserved place in our justice system. Come hear US Attorney Howard Wiener talk about the process of plea bargaining and what our justice system would look like if plea bargaining was prohibited. He'll talk about the right way and the wrong way to plea bargain as well as the many considerations that go into making that decision. Ultimately, understanding the concept of plea bargaining gives everyone a better understanding of the justice system as a whole.

Howard Wiener is a retired career prosecutor (Assistant U.S. Attorney) with the Department of Justice. He has handled many kinds of cases and numerous trials over his career. He has lectured to fellow prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and law students. He has also given talks at senior citizen centers and a business forum on how to avoid being a fraud and cybercrime victim.
