Ukemi Project: Mastering the Art of Falling and Recovery
Saturday, January 10 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm
Penn’s Village members are invited to participate in this valuable series around health and wellness. The program draws on the principles of formal martial arts practice and contact improvisation to teach participants safe falling techniques and ways to get off the floor—alone and with a partner. Mastering ukemi—the Japanese term for “falling technique”—can enhance balance, confidence, and overall mobility, while helping participants feel more in control of everyday movements such as walking, stair-climbing, and recovering from a trip or loss of balance.
Our long-term vision is for Zhang Sah students to share their practice with our Penns Village friends and help with fall-recovery techniques.
