John L. Hemphill III served in the United States Air Force during the Gulf War and comes from a family with a tradition of military experience dating back to World War 1. John lectures on military history from World War 1 and World War II to Vietnam. Much of his family lineage comes from abroad, and John has travelled extensively which has broadened his understanding of world views. John has worked for the City of Philadelphia for 24 years is now at the Free Library of Phila., and has 30 years of government experience.

John will discuss the lives and contributions of six military commanders of war: Eisenhower, Montgomery, Zhukov, Bastico, Rommel and de Tassigny. Part one of his lecture will take place on January 7 and part two will be held on January 15. There will be time for Q & A.

We will meet in the Atheneum, 219 South 6th Street. The handicapped entrance is at the rear of the building.
