The City of Philadelphia currently has experienced almost 26,000 cases and 1,600 deaths due to COVID-19. Dr. Carmen Guerra will shed further light into the racial and ethnic disparities that have been reported related to the risk of COVID-19 infection, access to testing, and adverse outcomes. In addition, she will propose some potential action steps to help reduce the disparate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color.

Dr. Guerra is the Ruth C. and Raymond G. Perelman Associate Professor and holds several leadership posts at the Perelman School of Medicine. She is the founding co-director of the Penn Medicine Colorectal Cancer Screening Navigation Program and the Penn Breast Health Initiative/Healthy Woman Program, programs that have improved access to cancer screening tests for thousands of underserved patients in the Philadelphia region. For Dr. Guerra’s work to help underserved patients, she received the prestigious St. George National Award from the American Cancer Society in 2017 and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Patient Advocate Award in 2018.

This will be an online event hosted via Zoom Conferencing. You do not need a Zoom account but you will need to download and install the Zoom app on your computer or mobile device to join the event. This program is free of charge to our members, volunteers and donors. Guests are welcome to attend up to three programs before being required to join and/or volunteer with Penn’s Village. During the coronavirus crisis, we are waiving the three-program limit and $10 fee for non-member guests to help our neighbors stay connected and engaged while social distancing.
