"Arts on the Mind" Festival Explores The Role of the Arts in Strengthening the Mind at All Ages

Join the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Penn Memory Center, The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Film Society, the Free Library, and ARTZ Philadelphia for events at The Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Film Center, the Woodmere Art Museum, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the Kimmel Center. Working with you and a variety of audiences, this collaboration of artists, humanists, educators, physicians, and neuroscientists will create, observe, and discuss art. Together, we’ll discover the vital role the arts have in developing and maintaining a mind as it ages, and the power of the arts to care for others’ minds with dignity and respect.

The inspiration for Arts on the Mind is the Philadelphia premiere of Marc Neikrug’s A Song by Mahler (Wednesday, May 15, 7:30 pm), a profoundly moving work of music theater that is the project’s culminating event. Exploring themes of love and loss, A Song by Mahler invites audiences to experience what Mr. Neikrug describes as “an intellectually and emotionally provoking evening” that harnesses the power of concert music and theater to create a space for an enduring contemplation of Arts on the Mind’s larger themes.

Our Valentine's Day Fundraising Campaign Continues!

In case you missed it, the Penn's Village annual Valentine's Day fundraiser is underway, and we'd be grateful if you'd consider making a donation to support our programs and services.  Member fees make up about half of our budget, leaving the rest to the generosity of members and friends like you!  And if you are a chocolate lover in addition to a Penn's Village lover, the first 15 people who give $250 or more will receive a box of tantalizing Godiva chocolates!  Click here to make your donation today!
